American Dream

by Steve Saunders

In the state of misdirection between Hell and Heaven above

You contemplate you insurrection you do what you hate so you can do what you love

It's like being in prison doing what those people say

You're paralyzed by indecision wondering should you stay or walk away

Chorus

Are you living now Is this the way you thought it would be

Is this the future you thought you would see

The American Dream Or American Greed

Soon arrived the addiction to the spoils of war and all it brings

You're morals suffered attrition for a few more costly worthless things

Somewhere you acquired a style of living you don't know when it began

What you hate kept taking what you love kept giving

until your love became a distant friend

Chorus

Chorus

Bridge

You've become the sum of all you consume

When you look at the mirror who's looking at you?
